Pell grants:How to apply for them
College education tends to be very expensive. If you want to
become a professional and qualify for a broader range of jobs, then a college degree is a must.
However, getting a college degree turn out to be very challenging both,
mentally as well as monetarily.
Pell grants are aimed towards bright students who are from the lower income
group. The government offers Pell grants which is an acronym for BEOGS (Basic Educational Opportunity Grants) to
students who would have otherwise been unable to afford college education or their families do not have enough
income to avail a loan for their studies.
There are many colleges and educational institutions that are part of
Government’s Pell grants.
If you want to apply for Pell grants, you will first need to contact the
school where you plan to enroll and find out whether Pell grants are available or not.
Pell grants can be used by students to get a bachelors degree in their
desired field of study that the college offers. As long as it is a bachelor degree, you can get a Pell grant
without any restriction.
As Pell grants are a form of federal grants, there are certain rules and
conditions that need to follow. The student will have to agree on remaining drug free while maintain a specific
grade point average. If the student fails to maintain the minimum grade point average or is found to have been
involved in drugs abuse, the funding may well be terminated. A Pell grant offers a great opportunity to those
students who wouldn’t have been able to attain a degree otherwise.
It is important that you uphold your commitment of keeping the minimum grade
point and stay free of drugs. If you are able to accomplish both these conditions, you will be virtually debt free
at the time you graduate. With a combination of federal Pell grants and work study, students are able to get
quality education at the expense of the government. The government puts a handsome investment on your desire and
skills in addition to providing you with the momentum to go on and become successful. They will see this commitment
to the end as long as the student cooperates.
The amount of Pell grant is awarded on the basis of the need of the student
and the amount of tuition at the school. It also depends on whether it is being offered to a part time or a full
time student. It is not a condition to be a full time student as long as you are admitted to a four year degree
program. If the student wants to transfer the school, then it is necessary that the new school is also a part of
the federal Pell grant program. As long as this condition is met, the funding will continue.
Obtaining a Pell grant is much easier if the student is an independent
student. Moreover it also depends on the income of the family. If you want to apply for Pell grants, fill out a SAR
(student aid report)form at your school.
